In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Treatment

Why choose VIKRAM FERTILITY & WOMEN'S CENTRE for IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization involves fertilising an egg with sperm in a laboratory setting, then transferring the resulting embryo(s) into the uterus.  IVF may be recommended when:

How our IVF programme works

Below is an outline of the typical IVF cycle followed by our team. Individual protocols may vary based on your age, fertility profile and previous history.

1. Pre-treatment evaluation & counselling

We begin with a detailed fertility assessment of both partners: blood tests (ovarian reserve, hormonal profile), semen analysis, ultrasound evaluation of the uterus/fallopian tubes and physical exam. We also provide counselling about the process, expectations and success rates.

2. Ovarian stimulation

Hormonal medications (FSH, LH, etc.) are used over several days to induce the ovaries to produce multiple mature eggs rather than the single egg typically released in a natural cycle. Cleveland Clinic +1 Frequent monitoring (ultrasound & blood tests) helps track follicle development.

3. Egg retrieval (Oocyte collection)

Once the eggs are ready, they are retrieved using a minimally invasive ultrasound-guided procedure under sedation. The eggs are immediately handed over to our embryology lab for fertilisation.

4. Fertilisation & embryo culture

In the lab, eggs are combined with sperm (from partner or donor) or injected with a single sperm via ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) if sperm parameters are poor. The resulting embryos are cultured for a few days under optimal conditions.

5. Embryo transfer

One or more viable embryos are transferred into the uterus using a fine catheter. The decision on how many embryos to transfer is guided by age, embryo quality and national guidelines to minimise multiple pregnancy risk.

6. Luteal phase support & pregnancy test

After transfer, medications (e.g., progesterone) support the uterine lining. A pregnancy blood test is typically done 10-14 days later. We provide close follow-up and support during this period.

It depends on your age, fertility factors and how many eggs/embryos you generate. Some couples conceive in the first cycle; others may require two or more.

Cost varies based on medications, lab procedures, freeze-thawing, donor use and geographic location. We provide detailed cost breakdowns during your consultation.

The minor discomfort may occur during the egg retrieval (a short procedure under sedation). Most other parts are non-invasive.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle, avoid smoking/alcohol, manage weight, reduce stress, and follow your doctor’s instructions. Our counsellors provide help with this.
